On my drive across PA I visited the mythic Centralia. You can read up on the modern ghost town in any number of places. So here I'll share my photos and feelings of the place.

Centralia is an unassuming grid of overgrown streets tucked between the Pennsylvania hills. When I visited a layer of fog covered the place and the plants were a vibrant green. It did not feel so remote, the next nearest town is barely visible from one hill or another. Instead it felt like the Chernobyl exclusion zone (not that I've been). Like someone had stopped for a roadside picnic that produced the movie Stalker. In fact, I would only recommend visiting if you had seen the film. It amplifies the silence.

A geology summer camp toured the day I visited. I wish I had caught the organization, it looked like an official state group.
